James Bainbridge

Race Director

UK based James was introduced to swimming aged 2 following a near-drowning experience in a local lake. Progressing though the usual learn-to-swim programmes led to a successful competitive junior period, collecting National Age Group medals and sharing the City of Birmingham training pool with a number of Olympic medallists. A competitive break during his University years ended with a Masters swimming return and a convenient excuse to travel; racing at World Masters level with his breaststroker wife, Nikki. Both are qualified swimming teachers, pool and open water coaches, and perhaps unsurprisingly, their 3 children all took to the water too; youngest daughter Ellie winning multiple National Open Water titles. With a full-time Officer role in the UK Fire and Rescue Service, James has combined his aquatic experience with his understanding of safety, situational awareness and emergency response, and joins us with Event/Race Director experience gained over the last decade.
