Video analysis (ULTRA+)
Of course there are longer swim challenges in our sport, but nonetheless 33km over 4 days presents its own set of unique difficulties to overcome.
A multi-day challenge demands different training requirements to a one-day event, especially with day 3 of this event format normally including a marathon (10km+) swim. The typical UltraSwim 33.3 course also has a great deal of variety in it - swimming in flat calm to open water coastal seas puts bigger demands on technique and adaption to different conditions.
Many different swimming coaches from around the world attend UltraSwim 33.3 with their clients - a great way to bring their groups of swimmers together with an ambitious goal to train for, and a celebration together at the event itself. Those coaches will have their own approaches on how to prepare for our events. We are building a network of Affiliated Coaches and Clubs who support our event, and these will be found shortly online here.

16week+1week Training Plan by Tom Jenkinson (Envol)
Tom has put together the 16w+1w Training Plan, to get you started. Following a weekly structure not only sustains high levels of motivation but also aids in developing event-specific conditioning and improves your open-water skills.
In this starter plan, there are four blocks of four weeks plus a final taper week. In each block, there are two “endurance” key sessions (to improve your ability to swim the distance) and two “tempo” key sessions (to improve your ability to hold pace over the distance). Any other swims can either be technique-focused, individual or squad swims.
This will be complemented with monthly webinars with our affiliated coaches and experienced event ambassadors, as well as a dedicated training WhatsApp channel where you can pose your questions when you want to both our team and other swimmers.
1:1 video analysis
Swimmers who choose the ULTRA+ package will be benefit from the opportunity for a 1:1 video analysis prior to the event, included in your package (you need to get the video taken, we can provide the guidelines). PLUS in the case of Croatia and Montenegro, this analysis can also take place on-site for a subsidised cost of €100 (ULTRA+ only) - ideally on the day before the event or during the afternoons of the event according to demand.
Some of the sessions in the training plan are also posted in our Strava Club where you can also see the activity feed of other swimmers entered in to UltraSwim 33.3, along with other general posts on how best to prepare for this challenge.
