WHY 33.3KM?

33.3km is the theoretical shortest distance of the English Channel from Dover to Calais, an iconic swim but notoriously difficult to pull off logistically, so we created a brand-new challenge for all bold swimmers out there.

UltraSwim 33.3 is a new category of open water event, defined as a multi-day timed swim challenge where participants complete the 33.3km over a series of 5-7 swims across a four-day long weekend in some fantastic locations.

“Nothing great is easy”

In 1883 an Englishman attempted to swim the rapids at the base of the Niagara Falls - a feat deemed impossible… and indeed it was, he died trying. However, Matthew Webb is better known as the first person to swim (without artificial aids) across the English Channel, which he did in 21 hours and 40 minutes having done most of the swimming breaststroke, and covering a 66km long zig-zag track. He finished on August 25, 1875, which catapulted him to international fame and earned him the nickname "The Captain."

Inspiration for the UltraSwim 33.3 Epic Adventure Swim Race Series™ comes in part from this crazy Englishman…33.3km is the theoretical shortest distance from Dover to Calais. UltraSwim 33.3 allows swimmers from across the world to take on this challenge, just in slightly warmer waters and more appealing locations such as Croatia, Greece, and Montenegro!

Whether you are thinking of an English Channel crossing, looking for an open water timed challenge, venturing away from the pool for the first time or you’re a triathlete banking some quality open water miles, UltraSwim 33.3 offers you the perfect race - a race where every finisher is treated as a winner.
