You don’t have to be an elite swimmer to be a winner at UltraSwim 33.3 - any determined competent swimmer, with the right preparation, can succeed and join the nonetheless exclusive list of 33.3’ers! Every finisher is a winner, and even you don’t make all the finish lines, you’ll be enormously respected for what you’ve achieved regardless!

The fastest swimmers are often the loudest too, so its easy to get put off by the Strava or Facebook chat about the km’s swum, the times achieved, the pace the swimmers at the front of the pack are nailing…but UltraSwim 33.3 attracts and supports in equal measure a full range of swimmer profiles. Already in our 2022 test event we had every kind of swimmer - from ex-pro/elite at one end, to those right at the start of their open water swimming experience - and everything in between - triathletes doing their longest ever swims, lifelong pool swimmers discovering for the first time the joys and challenges of the varied open water conditions UltraSwim 33.3 provides (from flat calm fjords to sometimes challenging ocean conditions), accomplished solo endurance swimmers experiencing an event with others racing around them, English Channel hopefuls getting the feel for what 33.3km feels like, and those not ready to take on the full 33.3km competing in the DUO RELAY category where the longest swim is 5km, and the total more like 20km over the 4 days.

YOU’RE READY IF…

  • You can swim at least 2.5km in an hour in a pool (this will translate to potentially 2km/hour which is our on-water cutoff on the longest swims)

  • You’ve comfortably managed a 3km open water swim before you get to the event

  • You’re comfortable in the water even when its not totally flat (again you don’t need years of experience either)

  • You are committed to train and prepare for the event

  • You swim front crawl continuously - the event is not suitable for a breaststroker (unless you are Olympian Adam Peaty).
