#14SWITZERLAND for Léman hope ‘Alps Lake’ edition

60 Swimmers Complete 33.3 km Across Four Days for the Stunning ‘Lake Edition’ at Lac Léman, Switzerland

The first full edition of UltraSwim 33.3 Switzerland, from 24 July to 27 July 2026, delivered a superb open water event at the Lac Léman for the ‘Lake Edition’ – the only event out of seven UltraSwim 33.3’s in 2026 that takes place in fresh water.

This edition also marks the first UltraSwim 33.3 with a charity cause built-in to the programme, raising money for local Foundation Léman Hope - a Swiss based charity that provides sailing trips to young cancer survivors, helping rebuild trust and confidence after very difficult periods of treatment. Over 10k CHF was raised during the event to support their efforts.

85 participants from 20 nationalities and 60% female, took on the first full edition of UltraSwim 33.3 Switzerland. For the combined total of 33.3 kilometres across four days, swimmers raced through the clean waters of the freshwater lake Lac Léman, (aka Lake Geneva internationally). The Léman lake provided an incredible swimming venuewith the most breathtaking back drop of spectacular Alps, UNESCO certified vineyards, Lausanne Ouchy and the Olympic Museum, and picturesque Swiss villages.Throughout the event swimmers experienced iconic spots such as Lausanne - the Olympic city, Montreux of Jazz Festival fame, the ancient Chateau de Chillon, the beautiful French lakeside town of Evian, as well as the quaint Swiss villages of Rivaz, Cully, Lutry and Pully.
The four days’ challenge gave the swimmers an interesting variety of conditions, from warm, sunny, and calm waters to more challenging conditions the last two days with big waves for an exciting closing swim on the final Day 4.
The iconic 12.3 km crossing between France and Switzerland on Day 2 had perfect mirror-like conditions creating an almost surreal experience with the spectacular Alps as the perfect backdrop.
Overall winner and endurance athlete Susie Moonan from Sweden dominated the course all four days with impressive swimming in the front. Moonan, swimming in the skins’ category, has an objective to swim the English Channel in 2027. The UltraSwim 33.3 was the ultimate lead up to for her coming challenge.

Second overall and winner of the men’s skins category, Jesper Holmberg, also a Swede, consistently finished second or third throughout the four days.

Of the 85 participants, 60 completed the full 33.3 km across all four days, while the remaining swimmers pushed hard against the event's time cutoffs, with some completing partial distances across the four-day challenge.

With warm summer water temperatures of around 25°C, few participants chose the wetsuits category and most swam in skins – meaning no buoyancy materials. This added to the challenge for some as swimmers float a bit less in fresh water than they're used to in salt water.

Four Days - Four Different Challenges

Day 1 – Two swims – 5.6 km (Villeneuve to Montreux) and 5.1 km (Rivaz to Cully)

Day 2 – 12.3 km (lake crossing from Evian in France to Lausanne in Switzerland)

Day 3 – 6.2 km (Cully to Pully plage)

Day 4 – 4.1 km (Ouchy to Guisan)

Makes a total of 33.3 km – the iconic English Channel Crossing distance
