Swimmers in warm open water at an UltraSwim 33.3 event in Greece

About the team behind premium 33.3km open water marathon swim events in Europe and the Caribbean

UltraSwim 33.3 creates Epic Adventure Swim Races™. Founded by Mark Turner and Nathaniel Waring, we built a new kind of open water event around one iconic distance, the English Channel crossing of 33.3km, spread over four days in warmer and much more welcoming ocean and lake locations, in an 'off-road', point to point, adventure course format.

We created UltraSwim 33.3 through a love of open-water swimming and a desire to create a new category of multi-day event that inspires people and gives them the platform to push themselves out of their comfort zone and benefit from it.

Our event is home to an incredibly diverse community that ranges from 14-76 years old, usually more women than men with over 40 different nationalities. From competitive Masters swimmers, triathletes and swimrunners to leisure and wild swimmers simply aiming to complete the distance. From a required minimum pace of 2km/h, any determined swimmer can do it.

The uniqueness of UltraSwim 33.3 is the multi-day aspect of each event. Our races, which are spread out across Europe and beyond, focus on point-to-point swims (we hate laps), with the ultimate goal of completing the English Channel theoretically shortest crossing distance of 33.3 kilometres but spread over four days. The highs and lows experienced in the multi-day format with like-minded swimmers creates life long bonds and new friendships in a way that no single day event can ever achieve.

Who are UltraSwim 33.3 and what do WE do?

UltraSwim 33.3 grew from our passion for swimming and our experience in sport, with one simple ambition: to create challenges that bring out something extraordinary in people.

We’re a team of swimmers, highly experienced event organisers and sports professionals, brought together from different backgrounds and based all over the world. Between us, we speak many languages, have experience across a wide range of sporting events, and share a deep understanding of what it takes to create an unforgettable challenge.
But ultimately, we’re swimmers too. We’re the facilitators. We create the environment, the challenge and the opportunity, but the experience belongs to the swimmers. That’s what keeps us working hard and travelling the world to deliver each event. We get to see first-hand the positive impact UltraSwim 33.3 can have on people: the confidence that grows, the friendships that form, the boundaries that shift and, sometimes, the life-changing moments that happen in (and out of) the water. Every time we see a swimmer finish an UltraSwim 33.3, we’re reminded why we do it (as there are easier things to do!).

"hits the sweet spot between challenge and achievability"

Challenge, met by community

The distance is the draw, but the people are why swimmers come back. Our swimmers range from 14 to 76, with a median age of 50+ and slightly more women than men at most events.  We design every Edition so the group energy carries you through the hardest moments.

A diverse community bringing experience from all over the world. Most come alone and go home with a tribe.

Marathon swim events can seem daunting, but our event is split over several days and fully supported by an experienced team of open-water swimmers and Affiliate coaches. We designed this event as experienced open-water swimmers ourselves.

The values behind every event

UltraSwim 33.3 #9 Greece, the swimmer community together

Community

We build events where strangers become a tribe, where new life-long friendships are born, and where group energy and determination carries everyone through the harder moments.

Adventure

Potentially life changing, certainly epic. We choose iconic locations worth travelling for and remembering forever. Where we can set courses that are point to point, with caves and passages as part of the route.

Inclusivity

From 14 to 76, slightly more women than men, alone or together, everyone can find their place at the start line. World class safety and event management underpin everything, and a comprehensive preparation programme means you arrive ready to swim like a pro even if you start without much experience.
