GREECE [Milos]

Milos. Stunning new Greek venue

Moonscapes, deep blue Aegean waters, secret cave passages, 100m long narrow channels, turtles and dolphins - Aphrodite keeps her eye on you in this epic adventure swim race heaven in the Cyclades.

Milos is best known as the "Island of Colours" in the Cyclades, famous for its otherworldly, volcanic landscapes, especially the moon-like white rock scenery of Sarakiniko Beach. It is renowned for having more beaches than any other Cycladic island, unique, colourful fishing villages like Klima and as the location where the Venus de Milo statue (Aphrodite) was discovered.

common Questions

When do the Milos, Greece events take place?

Milos, the Aphrodite Edition, runs early June, and unusually for UltraSwim 33.3, the event starts from Thursday - Sunday, with arrival for registration on the Wednesday (to time with UK and other school holiday week dates).

How warm is the water?

Water temperatures are a perfect 20-21°C around Milos in early June, with usually sunny days and warm (but not yet scorching) air temperatures to relax in. Milos is quieter than mid-summer, it's perfect timing.

Which formats are offered?

The full 33.3 CLASSIC only at this venue

Which location is right for me?

Milos offers a remote, dramatic volcanic landscape above water, and simply stunning underwater vistas and a real adventure swim route. Its the first event of the UltraSwim 33.3 season, and will attract all types of swimmers in terms of pace, ambition and experience.

What do the packages include?

All inclusive packages start from €2,350 (but from just €2,057 as a group of 4) and cover 4 nights accommodation, swimmer breakfasts and refuel lunches on swim days, daily boat support and the full event experience with premium support services.

Where will I be staying?

We'll be based in the fishing village of Pollonia on the north-east coast of Milos, 25 mins drive from the airport. Most accommodation is located on the small peninsula in Pollonia - everything is within a maximum 10 mins walk of the village centre / dock where you will most days board to start your day. Most accommodations are within 2-3 mins walk of the sea. There are no large hotels on Milos and in Pollonia the accommodation is a mixture of small boutique properties (4* and 5*) with pools or jacuzzis, and small apartment type hotels (3* ). Pollonia village has many great and reasonably priced restaurants for evening meals.

Can I bring a non-participating partner with me?

You bet! And a large number of our swimmers do. Our Family, Friends and Fans (F3) Supporter and Activity Package ensures your partner will feel totally part of YOUR team, without needing to perhaps set the alarm so early. And instead of being forced to watch hours on end of swimmers in the distance, they will enjoy their own custom programme that will also see them join you for post-race lunches, the social events including the prize-giving, and experience key moments with you - including a final swim in (weather permitting) with you - with their own 'team' medal to prove it! Of course, they can also opt to chill on the beach in the mornings and spend the afternoons and evenings with you instead.

UNIQUE TO this event

  • This is unusually a Thursday to Sunday event to time with some country's school holiday week (ie it is possible just to make it back home Sunday night in Europe at least, making it a perfect family destination also)
  • Accommodation in Pollonia is not in one big hotel - instead it is in a number of whitewashed villas, boutique residences and micro hotels. The village is small enough that it will become well and truly Ultra'd during the event!
  • You can arrive by ferry or plane to Milos - and everyone regardless of ULTRA package option chosen will be met on arrival and transferred to their event accommodation.
  • More hidden cave and exciting narrow channel passages as part of the racecourse than any of our other Editions.
  • On our Pioneer test event in 2026, the swimmers saw more turtles than we've seen anywhere at any of our events since 2022!

prep camp

The UltraSwim 33.3 Prep Camp takes place during the two days before the event and is designed to help swimmers arrive at the start line feeling confident, prepared and ready for the challenge ahead. Over two days, swimmers can familiarise themselves with the location and course, take part in guided swims and training sessions, and receive practical advice on pacing, nutrition, equipment, recovery and managing four consecutive days of open-water swimming. It is also a great opportunity to meet fellow swimmers, coaches and the UltraSwim team before race day, creating connections and helping everyone settle into the UltraSwim 33.3 experience. The Prep Camp provides the perfect bridge between training and the challenge — allowing swimmers to prepare both physically and mentally before embarking on their 33.3km journey.

HOW to get there?

Where is it?

Milos is a spectacular Greek island and a truly unique setting for an UltraSwim 33.3 event. Famous for its volcanic landscapes, dramatic coastline, hidden caves and crystal-clear Aegean waters, the island provides an incredible backdrop for four days of open-water swimming. Away from the challenge of the 33.3km, swimmers can explore colourful fishing villages, beautiful beaches and the island’s distinctive natural scenery, while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and warm hospitality of the Cyclades. Milos brings together adventure, endurance and discovery, creating an unforgettable experience both in and out of the water.

Getting there

Fly to Milos Airport (MLO) from Athens with regular short domestic flights operated by Sky Express and Olympic Air — the most straightforward route for most swimmers travelling to Milos. International travellers can connect easily via Athens, and if you haven’t yet explored the iconic Acropolis of Athens, this is the perfect excuse to extend your trip!

Alternatively, you can travel by high-speed ferry from the Port of Piraeus (Athens), with several daily sailings to Milos (journey time approximately 2.5–4 hours depending on service) or fly to neighbouring Santorini or Mykonos islands and take a ferry to Milos. See our Travelbook for more details.

Arrival:
Arrive into Milos Airport (MLO) ideally in the morning, or no later than 16:00 on Wednesday to allow time for transfers and event registration.

Departure:
Book return flights from Milos from 1400 onwards on the Monday. Earlier departures may mean missing the final swim — and the chance to officially become a 33.3er!

HOW DOES THE EVENT WORK?

Every event follows the same simple rhythm. A supported swim each morning, an easy afternoon to rest and explore, and evenings together with the group. It is this shape, repeated across four days, that turns 33.3km into something you build towards rather than survive.

Start early, swim strong

Every edition follows the same simple rhythm over a long weekend. Early starts for the best weather and safety, a post swim refuel, recovery massage*, and return to the hotels for an easy afternoon to rest or explore, and evenings together cementing new friendships.

Build distance, build confidence

As the event progresses, distances build from 4km, with a marathon (10km+) swim on day 3 weather permitting - and what feels like a celebration c.4km final day course.  You'll be tired some days, you'll feel like superman on others - in the moments of doubt on or off the water, the group energy will carry you forward.

More than just a swim

The overall experience will mark you positively, and for many even life-changing and you'll give your very best whether you finish every leg or not. Our aim is to send you home a better swimmer, person or both.
