Swimmers more often miss their race to an avoidable overuse injury in the final weeks of preparation than to any lack of fitness. Our injury prevention guidance covers the shoulder, neck and lower back issues that affect endurance swimmers, with practical steps you can apply in every training week.
INJURY PREVENTION

Shoulder impingement, neck strain and lower back pain account for the majority of training related injuries among long distance open water swimmers. All three are predictable, and all three are largely preventable with the right warm up, strength work and load management built into your weekly schedule.
Prevention is five to ten minutes at the start and end of every session, built into your training rather than bolted on. The swimmers who train uninterrupted are almost always those who treat warm up, cool down and one dry land strength session a week as non negotiable.

Do not wait until you are on site. Neil Maclean-Martin, an expert sports physiotherapist, osteopath and sports injury specialist, and an accomplished endurance athlete himself, is flown in by us and available on site for consultations at every event, and beforehand if you are worried about any issue.
Book a pre event consultation through La Clinique du Sport, based in Chamonix, France. Please ask for Neil and mention UltraSwim 33.3.
Watch Neil's 8 minute 'prehab' routine to help you prevent injury while you train.
Injury prevention, nutrition, technique and training plans are all part of the UltraSwim 33.3 preparation programme. Register for your event and access everything you need to reach the start line in the best shape of your life.
