Open water swimming — UltraSwim 33.3

60 swimmers from 16 countries are diving in to explore the open waters of Costa Brava, along the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean.

‍

For these athletes, UltraSwim 33.3 is about much more than the distance they will cover. It is an opportunity to challenge themselves, discover their limits, connect with others, and experience the natural world from a unique perspective. And this year, as we prepare for UltraSwim 33.3 #17BARCELONA [Costa Brava], we are especially proud to bring another important purpose into focus: protecting the waters that make these experiences possible. Through our partnership with Save the Med, we are joining forces around a shared belief that meaningful sporting experiences can inspire a deeper connection with nature.

The partnership is built around creating meaningful connections between people and the marine environment, while encouraging greater awareness of the importance of protecting the waters we are so lucky to swim in.

Together, we want to share a story built around three key values.

1. Resilience: In the Sea and in Ourselves

Resilience is at the heart of every UltraSwim 33.3 event. Open-water swimming requires determination, adaptability, and the ability to keep moving forward when conditions become challenging. Every swimmer must learn to respond to the water, manage their energy, and trust the process.

The Mediterranean, too, is a powerful reminder of resilience. Its ecosystems face growing pressures, and protecting their ability to thrive requires sustained attention, collective responsibility, and action.

2. Respecting the Aquatic Environment

Our partnership with Save the Med reinforces the importance of respecting the aquatic environment and recognising the role we all play in safeguarding it. From the choices we make as individuals to the way we organise sporting events, every effort to reduce our impact and increase awareness matters.

We want our community to understand that the privilege of swimming in these waters comes with an obligation to care for them. Protecting the Mediterranean is not the responsibility of one organisation or one community alone; it is a collective effort.

3. Building Community Through Nature

One of the most powerful aspects of UltraSwim 33.3 is its ability to bring people together. Athletes, organisers, local communities, and supporters all contribute to an experience that is bigger than the swim itself.

By celebrating the Mediterranean and recognising its importance to the places we visit, we can strengthen relationships between people, communities, and nature.

‍

‍

As our swimmers enter the water tomorrow, they’ll each have their own goals and challenges. Together, they’ll also be part of something bigger: a community that values both personal achievement and environmental responsibility.

By working with Save the Med, we hope to help create experiences that leave a positive impact not only on the people who take part, but also on the places that welcome us.

One sea. One community. One shared responsibility.

We’re proud to share this journey with Save the Med at UltraSwim 33.3 #17BARCELONA [Costa Brava].
